Senior Occupational Therapist in Grimsby

Community Inpatient Unit provides Rehabilitation, Re-ablement and recovery interventions for adults in North East Lincolnshire. The service will promote faster recovery from illness, prevent unnecessary acute hospital admissions and premature admissions to long-term care, support timely discharge from hospital and maximise independent living wherever possible. Multi-professional staff will collaborate with individuals to ensure they achieve their full potential in terms of their level of independence, health, and wellbeing.

Main duties of the job:

• Perform advanced therapy assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions.
• Use advanced clinical reasoning skills to provide a diagnosis and to develop and deliver individualised treatment programmes.
• Manage own caseload and a defined area of service, working without direct supervision.
• Supervise, educate and assess students, assistants and junior staff.
• Provide specialised advice/training to other health care professionals in the specific clinical area.
• Undertake evidence-based audit and research projects to further own and team's clinical practice.
• Make recommendations to clinical leads/manager of service changes to practice.
• May lead the implementation of specific changes to or contribute to the development of service protocols.

Qualifications:

• Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy with State Registration.
• Post graduate training across a range of specialised clinical areas.

Experience:

• Able to manage own caseload.
• Evidence of supervising staff.
• Experience of team working.
• Presentations to wider audiences.
• Clinical education of students, assistants or other staff.
• Responsibility for clinical governance/audit activities.
• Involvement in research.

Knowledge & Skills:

• Effective 1:1 and group teaching skills.
• Evidence of participation in departmental clinical governance/audit activities.
• Highly self-motivated.
• Clear and effective communication skills both written and verbal.
• Able to motivate others, including patients and team members.
• Empathetic approach.
• Working knowledge of Systm One or similar.
• Awareness of legal responsibilities within remit of role.
