Primary Function: Responsible for planning and performing diagnostic patient examinations using technical skills utilizing radiation-emitting equipment to produce diagnostic radiographs. At the administrative direction of the Radiology Manager/Modality Supervisor and the clinical direction of the Radiologist, independently performs all exams without any supervision.
Responsibilities:
- Competently operates all units of the section’s imaging equipment while performing high-quality procedures in a safe and efficient manner.
- Review requisitions to determine proper room set up and amounts of radiation.
- Study views required for examination relative to patient’s anatomy and perform examinations.
- Evaluate diagnostic films to ensure quality studies, having unsuitable films repeated as necessary.
- Independently performs quality control procedures at the designated intervals on imaging and ancillary equipment to ensure compliance with Federal and Joint Commission standards of care.
- Train employees and students in day-to-day procedures.
- Collaborates, communicates and problem solves regularly with other divisions of the department and establishes ongoing lines of communication with other departments through meetings and discussions.
- Works proactively with other departments to facilitate patient access to the scheduling of exams.
- Demonstrates competency in the use of all applicable aspects of the Radiology Information System (RIS), Clinical Information System (CIS), Picture Archiving System (PACS) and other computer systems unique to each imaging section.
- Participates in continuing education activities as required by the section employed.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications and Specifications: An Associate’s degree in Radiologic Technology and minimum six months job-related experience or equivalent is required. CPR Certification Required. Radiology Technologist License through the State of Rhode Island and ARRT Certification is also required.
