Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform psychiatric nursing in accordance with appropriate medical protocol.
- Provide accurate and timely information about medications and their side effects to the client and relevant others.
- Use medication maintenance strategies, ensuring that the doctor’s orders have been accurately transcribed, implementing the prescribed medical regimen, monitoring lab results to validate medication compliance, and assessing any aspect of the consumer’s treatment regimen that endangers their level of wellness.
- Use physical assessment skills to determine related nursing interventions, including when medication exacerbates medical conditions and recognition of basic medical problems.
- Inform and educate consumers about mental illness, medication, coping skills, their rights as clients, services, community resources, self-help, and the consumer movement.
Requirements:
- Associate's degree in Nursing (ASN) required, Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Active Rhode Island license (RN, LPN) as well as relevant experience with behavioral health, substance abuse, and serious mental illness.
- Must have a valid driver's license and insured auto.
