We are seeking an experienced, qualified and appropriately registered self-employed Psychotherapist or Counsellor for our new Residential Family Assessment Centre in which we welcome you to help shape the service, and our therapy room!
The role will start at 1 day per week, increasing over time with collaboration with the therapist, up to 2 or 2.5 days depending on occupancy. We would ask for 1 fixed day per week, which will be mutually agreed between the centre and therapist.
The therapist will retain professional responsibility and clinical autonomy for their therapeutic work and will work within the ethical and professional standards of their registering/accrediting body and the centre's agreed policies and procedures.
Fee and arrangements for therapeutic sessions, clinical records and agreed multidisciplinary participation will be discussed with shortlisted applicants.
The role will involve:
- Providing individual therapeutic sessions to individual parents or parents attending as a couple.
- Helping parents understand and manage emotional difficulties that affect their parenting.
- Supporting parents around trauma, attachment, relationships, emotional regulation, anxiety, depression, etc., where within the therapist's competence.
- Contributing appropriately to multidisciplinary discussions.
- Helping staff understand relevant psychological/therapeutic issues where appropriate.
- Where agreed and within the therapist's competence, providing reflective practice, psychoeducation and/or training to staff. This will not constitute formal clinical supervision of staff unless separately agreed and appropriately commissioned.
- Identifying and escalating safeguarding or significant mental-health concerns.
- Maintaining appropriate clinical records.
- The therapist will work within clearly defined confidentiality and information-sharing arrangements agreed with the centre. These will include appropriate exceptions relating to safeguarding, risk of serious harm and legal requirements. The therapist will not be responsible for making the statutory assessment of parenting capacity unless separately commissioned and appropriately qualified to do so.
- Therapy sessions will not be used as covert assessment sessions, and the therapist will not be expected to provide an opinion on parenting capacity unless this forms part of a separately agreed and appropriately commissioned piece of work.
