Job overview
Must be a driver with a current full UK manual licence. Must be willing to drive the service car unsupervised.
Main duties of the job
- Flexibility – work night shifts, including weekends and bank holidays
- Attend training during employment, typically on weekdays
- Write basic reports and record information accurately
- Use basic IT – complete forms, use an online care system, write emails
- Maintain professional working boundaries and remain calm in emergencies
- Support others during difficult situations and de‑escalate challenging behaviours
- Update online care records and complete medication administration
- Provide effective handovers to day staff
- Maintain the general upkeep and tidiness of the home, ensuring a homely environment
- Work with another night worker or have access to an on‑call manager for additional support
Desirable criteria
- NVQ Level 2 qualification or equivalent in care
- Previous experience working with young people who have mental health needs

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
At Care in Mind, our homes are a hub of activity where young people can feel safe. You will support them during nights, dealing with well‑being, education, household tasks and life skills, as well as incident management and de‑escalation of challenging behaviours.
You will update online care records, administer medication, hand over to day staff and maintain the home’s tidiness. Despite night work, you will receive support from another night worker or have access to an on‑call manager.
The assignment is within a newly renovated 6‑bed service in Ashton‑on‑Ribble, close to Preston town centre and local amenities.
Previous care experience is not essential; full training and ongoing mentoring are provided.
