Responsibilities
You will work the night shift supporting young people aged 16‑30 with mental health needs in a residential setting. Your daily duties include providing personal care and assistance with wellbeing, education, household tasks and general life skills. You will also manage incidents, de‑escalate challenging behaviour, update online care records, administer medication, and provide hand‑over to the day staff. Support of another night worker or a sleep‑in is available, and an on‑call manager can be consulted for additional assistance. The service is a 5‑bed Edwardian building with spacious rooms and communal areas. Your role will involve maintaining the cleanliness and tidiness of the home to ensure a homely environment for the residents. Young people may experience a range of diagnoses, including personality disorder, eating disorders, and self‑harm. You will help them improve relationships with food, manage self‑harm incidents, and support them in preparing for transition to community life – assisting with medication self‑administration, re‑engaging with education, accessing public transport, and attending appointments independently. Residents enjoy a variety of activities such as arts & crafts, baking, cooking, board games, movie nights, community outings, beach trips, shopping, bowling, walks, concerts, and the cinema. Previous care experience is not essential – full training will be provided. You will receive ongoing support and mentoring through reflective practice, one‑to‑one supervision, and group staff support.
