  • Personal Care and Support
  • Support individuals with personal care needs, including washing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and maintaining personal hygiene, while preserving dignity and respect.
  • Assist with mobility and safe transfers using appropriate equipment and moving and handling techniques.
  • Provide emotional support, reassurance, and companionship to promote wellbeing and reduce social isolation.
  • Medication and Health Monitoring
  • Prompt or administer medication in line with care plans, competency assessments, and company policies.
  • Monitor and record observations such as temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respirations, and oxygen saturation where required.
  • Observe and report any changes in an individual's physical or emotional wellbeing to senior staff or clinical professionals.
  • Complex Care Skills

Candidates may be required to support individuals with complex healthcare needs, including:

  • PEG feeding and enteral medication administration.
  • Tracheostomy care, suctioning, and airway management.
  • Colostomy/stoma care.
  • Seizure management and emergency response protocols.
  • Dystonia management and neurological care support.
  • Supporting individuals with behaviours that challenge, including PMVA or equivalent de-escalation techniques.
  • Following detailed care plans, risk assessments, and clinical protocols safely and effectively.
  • Nutrition and Mealtime Support
  • Prepare and support individuals with meals and fluids in accordance with dietary requirements, nutritional needs, and personal preferences.
  • Monitor food and fluid intake where required.
  • Household and Community Support
  • Assist with light domestic duties including laundry, cleaning, and maintaining a clean and safe environment.
  • Support individuals to attend appointments, access the community, complete shopping, and participate in social activities.
  • Care Coordination and Communication
  • Maintain accurate, clear, and timely care records in line with legal, organisational, and regulatory standards.
  • Work collaboratively with families, nurses, healthcare professionals, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated and person-centred care.
  • Participate in care reviews, handovers, and team meetings where required.
  • Safety and Compliance
  • Adhere to safeguarding procedures, infection prevention and control measures, and health and safety regulations at all times.
  • Respond appropriately in emergency situations and escalate concerns promptly.
  • Professionalism and Development
  • Promote the values of dignity, compassion, inclusion, and respect in all aspects of care delivery.
  • Attend mandatory training, supervision, and ongoing professional development activities.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Previous experience within health and social care is desirable but not essential, as full training can be provided.
  • NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 in Health and Social Care (or willingness to work towards).
  • Completion of the Care Certificate is desirable.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Manual Handling training (or willingness to undertake training).
  • Good communication, literacy, and numeracy skills.
  • Compassionate, professional, and reliable approach to care.
  • Ability to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends, nights, and public holidays where required.
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Full UK driving licence is desirable but not essential.
