We are the public body that looks after England’s historic environment. We champion historic places, helping people understand, value and care for them. Historic England have a fantastic opportunity for you to join us as our National Blue Plaque Scheme Coordinator. This is a Part Time, Fixed-Term Contract until 10th June 2026 working 18 hours a week. The location of this role is National where we offer hybrid working; you will be based in one of our offices and from home - Newcastle, York, Manchester, Birmingham, Swindon, Bristol, Portsmouth (Fort Cumberland) and Cambridge.

Responsibilities

The National Blue Plaque Scheme Coordinator is a key member of the National Blue Plaques team. In this role, you will be responsible for the smooth running of the scheme, supporting the Head of Participation Programmes to ensure all aspects of the programme are delivered effectively.

  • You will monitor the public blue plaques inbox, responding to emails and escalating any that need the attention of the Head of Participation Programmes.
  • You will support the Head of Participation Programmes to run the annual nomination process, from helping to make sure we get the most diverse range of people being nominated for a plaque through to the sifting process and shortlisting.

Qualifications

  • Good experience in administrative processes
  • Competence in standard IT packages (Word, Excel) and some experience of working with graphic and design packages (e.g. Adobe Illustrator, InDesign)
  • Comfortable with innovating, trying new ways of working and the uncertainty that accompanies this
  • Constructive and collaborative approach – inspiring internal and external stakeholders, achieving buy-in through communicating passion, logic, insight and purpose
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including strong negotiating and influencing skills
  • Excellent organisational skills
