The Apprentice Systems Administrator will support Care Dorset’s digital systems, applications, and core infrastructure. The post-holder will learn how to maintain, configure, and support key platforms across the organisation, while developing technical skills in areas such as data platforms, Power Automate, Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, databases, and IT service management. This role is ideal for someone who is enthusiastic about technology, eager to learn, and wants to build a career in IT operations, systems administration, or data platforms.
The Apprentice Systems Administrator Assistant will:
- Undertake a range of general administrative duties to support the efficient operation of a named team or teams, including creating, maintaining and interrogating information records and statistical information.
- Work within agreed principles and guidelines, under the direct supervision of the line manager.
- Have their work regulated by laid down procedures but with an occasional requirement for creative or innovatory thinking especially when creating, developing and reviewing administrative procedures.
- Be expected to make decisions within rules and procedures but with some discretion to choose from established alternatives.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Application Support
- Provide first-line and supervised second-line support for internal Care Dorset digital systems.
- Assist with user account setup, access permissions, and configuration changes.
- Support application updates, testing, and user acceptance processes.
- Work with system owners to identify and resolve issues.
Infrastructure & Systems Administration
- Support day-to-day monitoring of servers, networks, backups, and endpoints.
- Assist with patching, security updates, and routine maintenance tasks.
- Help maintain device inventories, asset registers, and documentation.
- Contribute to the rollout of new hardware, software, and cloud services.
- Learn core infrastructure concepts (Active Directory, Group Policy, Azure AD, network basics etc.).
Data & Analytics (Fabric / Power BI / Databases)
- Learn and support the development of Power BI dashboards and reports.
- Assist in data preparation, cleansing, and modelling using Microsoft Fabric.
- Support routine database tasks (monitoring, simple queries, backups).
- Work with senior colleagues to ensure data accuracy and security.
Service Management & Customer Support
- Log and track tickets using the IT service management tool.
- Provide excellent customer service to colleagues across Care Dorset’s services.
- Produce user guides, knowledge base articles, and documentation.
- Support onboarding and offboarding processes for new staff.
