Responsibilities
- Prepare, cook, and serve hot and cold meals that meet the dietary needs of residents.
- Plan menus with the Head Chef, ensuring balanced nutrition and optimal use of fresh ingredients.
- Manage day‑to‑day kitchen operations, controlling food production within budget while maintaining high cleanliness and hygiene standards.
- Maintain accurate records of food supplies, monitor freezer and fridge temperatures, and ensure food safety and quality.
- Rotate stock, assist in ordering supplies, check deliveries, and conduct stock valuations as required.
- Uphold statutory Health & Safety standards in the kitchen and dining areas.
- Ensure all crockery and equipment are cleaned, stored properly, and oversee overall cleanliness of the kitchen and dining areas.
Qualifications
- City & Guilds 706 “1 & 2” or equivalent qualification (achieved or working towards).
- Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.
- Team‑player attitude, capable of working effectively within a team.
- Strong communication skills to liaise with team members and residents’ dietary needs.
- Initiative and ability to work independently, taking the lead when the Head Chef is unavailable.
Experience
- Specialised food preparation for the specific needs of care home residents.
- Experience working in a care environment is beneficial but not essential.
