Mitie Communities delivers comprehensive hard and soft Facilities Management services across the UK public sector, supporting environments such as hospitals, schools and blue light facilities. The Senior Engineering Manager provides strategic and technical leadership for all engineering and estates services, ensuring safe, efficient and compliant operations in line with statutory standards and PFI requirements. Acting as a senior technical authority and Lead Authorised Person, the role oversees maintenance quality, ensures safe systems of work, and provides specialist engineering expertise across the organisation. The position also offers continuity of building management by deputising for the Building Manager when required.
The role requires effective communication with managers, senior leaders and directors within both Mitie and the Trust, often involving complex, sensitive or contentious issues that demand strong negotiation and persuasive skills. The postholder must communicate Mitie policies and technical information to staff, including highly complex engineering content for electrical and mechanical teams, while also liaising with a wide range of external bodies such as equipment suppliers, architects, consultants, NHS Estates, the Medical Devices Agency, HSE and emergency services.
They ensure all contractual and statutory building-related requirements are met and recorded, act as an Authorised Person in line with Mitie Site Authorised Person Matrix, interpret and implement complex technical documentation, and develop strategic sitewide plans that meet current regulations while remaining adaptable to future legislative changes.
