Location: This role is primarily faceâtoâface within a clinic setting in North East Cumbria. As our NHS contracts grow, clinics will be offered across multiple sites in the UK, with allocations made based on proximity to the assessor for convenience and efficiency.
Working Hours: Partâtime basis (2â3 days per week) on a 6âmonth fixed term contract

đŤ What we are looking for? We are looking for a kind, compassionate, and proactive Children and Young People Community Practitioner who enjoys building trusting relationships with children, young people, and their carers or guardians. This role supports our faceâtoâface provision within Care and is offered on a partâtime basis (2â3 days per week), with flexibility where possible to support a healthy workâlife balance.
đWhat You Will Be Doing: You will be skilled in assessing, observing, and understanding neurodiverse presentations in children and young people. Working closely with families and carers, you will meet with each young person faceâtoâface to complete thoughtful, behaviouralâbased assessments that help inform diagnostic pathways and assessment recommendations. Your work will play an important role in ensuring children and young people feel seen, heard, and supported throughout the assessment process.
- Key Responsibilities
- Assessment & Observation: Carry out structured and semiâstructured faceâtoâface behavioural assessments within a supportive clinic environment. Thoughtfully observe and understand each child or young personâs social communication, emotional regulation, attention, sensory experiences, and adaptive skills. Administer and score standardised localised assessment tools with care and accuracy. Gently gather developmental histories in partnership with children and young people, their parents, carers, and guardians, ensuring their voices are heard and respected.
- Reporting & Documentation: Produce clear, wellâstructured written reports, drawing thoughtfully on observations, information, and evidence gathered during the assessment process. Provide practical, personâcentred recommendations to support next steps in diagnostic assessment and care planning. Confident user of IT tools relevant to the role, with strong troubleshooting skills.
- Collaboration & Communication: Work closely as part of a multidisciplinary team. Understand and support next steps following assessment, ensuring information is shared clearly and appropriately with families and professionals. Communicate with children, young people, and families in an accessible, sensitive, and nonâjudgemental way, helping them feel informed, respected, and supported.
- Safeguarding & Professional Practice: Hold a strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of children and young people, with a clear understanding of local and national safeguarding guidance and the confidence to raise concerns when needed. Keep careful, respectful, and accurate records, recognising their importance in supporting continuity of care, accountability, and positive outcomes for children, young people, and families.
đ To Thrive In This Role Youâll Need:
- At least 4 yearsâ experience working in healthcare, social care, or educational settings, supporting children, young people, and their families.
- Handsâon experience with neurodevelopmental conditions, including ADHD and Autism, with an understanding of their impact on daily life, learning, and development.
- Proven experience conducting behavioural observations and assessments in a thoughtful, childâcentred manner.
- Strong analytical and reportâwriting skills, with the ability to translate observations and assessment findings into clear, practical, and supportive recommendations for families and professionals.
