We are recruiting Painter and Decorators to work in our Voids Team based in the Swindon area. As a Painter and Decorator, you are responsible for preparing surfaces and applying paint, varnishes, wallpaper, and other finishes to protect, maintain, and decorate interior and exterior surfaces of buildings and other structures. The role ensures that spaces are both visually appealing and protected from wear and environmental damage.
Responsibilities
- Prepare surfaces for painting and decorating including filling, sanding, stripping wallpaper, and priming surfaces.
- Apply paints, stains, varnishes, and wallpapers to interiors and exteriors using brushes, rollers, and other tools.
- Carry out minor plastering and repairs where necessary before decorating.
- Work on void and tenanted properties ensuring minimal disruption to residents.
- Ensure all work complies with relevant health & safety regulations and risk assessments.
- Protect furniture and flooring using dust sheets and appropriate coverings.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment on-site.
- Report any safeguarding concerns or property damage to supervisors promptly.
- Work independently or as part of a team to complete projects on time and to a high standard.
- Provide excellent customer service, maintaining respectful communication with tenants.
- Accurately complete job records, time sheets, and material usage logs.
- Transport and store materials safely and in accordance with company procedures.
Requirements
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Painting and Decorating (or equivalent trade qualification).
- Experience of painting & decorating in residential/domestic settings.
- Experience of working in both void and tenanted properties.
- Competent in preparing various surface types and applying different finishes to a professional standard.
- Awareness of and commitment to health and safety, including COSHH, manual handling, and working at height.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – able to engage with tenants with empathy and professionalism.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Full UK driving licence.
