Role Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Plumber / Heating & Gas Engineer to carry out reactive maintenance, planned maintenance, servicing, repairs, installations, and compliance works across housing association and social housing properties. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high‑quality workmanship while ensuring excellent customer service to tenants and residents. The role involves working within occupied and void domestic properties, ensuring all works are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with current regulations and company procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plumbing Duties:
    • Diagnose and repair plumbing faults within domestic properties.
    • Install, maintain, and repair hot and cold water systems.
    • Repair and replace taps, toilets, sinks, showers, baths, waste pipework, and associated fixtures.
    • Install and maintain unvented and vented hot water systems.
    • Complete bathroom and kitchen plumbing upgrades as required.
    • Attend emergency callouts and reactive maintenance works.
  • Heating & Gas Duties:
    • Service, repair, and maintain domestic gas boilers and heating systems.
    • Carry out landlord gas safety inspections and issue Gas Safety Certificates (CP12s).
    • Diagnose faults and undertake repairs to boilers, heating controls, radiators, and pipework.
    • Install and commission domestic gas appliances and heating systems.
    • Perform system flushing, balancing, and commissioning activities.
    • Ensure compliance with Gas Safe regulations and industry standards.
  • Housing Association Responsibilities:
    • Work within occupied social housing properties with professionalism and respect.
    • Liaise directly with tenants and residents regarding appointments and work progress.
    • Ensure all work areas are left clean, safe, and tidy upon completion.
    • Accurately complete job sheets, risk assessments, and compliance documentation using handheld devices or paperwork.
    • Adhere to housing association service level agreements (SLAs) and key performance indicators (KPIs).
    • Identify and report any safeguarding concerns, property defects, or health and safety issues.
  • Health & Safety Responsibilities:
    • Comply with all company Health & Safety policies and procedures.
    • Undertake risk assessments before commencing work.
    • Ensure safe isolation procedures are followed where required.
    • Use company‑issued PPE and maintain tools and equipment in safe working order.
    • Report accidents, incidents, and near misses promptly.

You Will Need:

  • Qualifications:
    • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Plumbing and Heating (or equivalent).
    • Current Gas Safe Registration.
    • ACS Qualifications including: CCN1, CENWAT, CKR1, HTR1.
    • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 3 years' experience within domestic plumbing and heating.
    • Experience working within social housing, housing association, or local authority contracts.
    • Strong fault‑finding and diagnostic skills.
    • Experience completing gas servicing, breakdowns, and repairs.
  • Skills:
    • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
    • Good IT skills for job management systems and mobile devices.
    • Strong problem‑solving abilities.
    • Ability to work under pressure and meet performance targets.
