The Compliance Manager is responsible for ensuring that all properties and operations meet statutory, regulatory and internal compliance requirements within the social housing sector. This includes overseeing safety programmes, managing risk, and ensuring the organisation remains compliant with relevant housing legislation and standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, including health and safety, housing regulations, and building safety requirements.
  • Monitor changes in legislation and implement necessary policy or procedural updates.
  • Act as the lead contact for regulatory bodies and audits.
  • Oversee compliance programmes, including:
    • Gas safety
    • Electrical safety
    • Fire safety
    • Water hygiene (Legionella)
    • Asbestos management
    • Lift and equipment safety inspections
  • Ensure all servicing, inspections, and remedial works are completed within required timeframes.
  • Identify, assess, and manage compliance risks across the housing portfolio.
  • Maintain and update the organisation’s risk registers.
  • Develop mitigation strategies and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Maintain accurate compliance records and asset data.
  • Produce regular reports for senior management and the board.
  • Monitor KPIs and compliance performance metrics.
  • Manage external contractors delivering compliance-related services, ensuring they meet performance, safety and regulatory standards, procure services in line with organisational policies.
  • Develop and maintain compliance policies and procedures.
  • Ensure staff are trained and aware of compliance responsibilities.
  • Lead and manage compliance teams (if applicable).
  • Work closely with asset management, repairs and housing teams.
  • Provide expert advice to senior leadership on compliance matters.

You Will Need:

  • Proven experience in a compliance, asset management, or health & safety role within social housing or property.
  • Strong knowledge of UK housing legislation and safety standards.
  • Experience managing statutory compliance areas (gas, fire, electrical, etc.).
  • Ability to interpret regulations and implement practical solutions.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills.
  • Experience managing contractors and service delivery.
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant professional qualification (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH or equivalent).
  • Degree or equivalent experience in housing, building or compliance-related field (desirable).
