Cardigan Health Centre is looking for a 6-8 session Salaried GP to join our supportive, forward-thinking team in one of the most beautiful corners of West Wales. You will replace a retiring GP who has worked for the practice for 32 years.
Starting salary: £10,500 - £11,500 per session, depending on experience.

Main duties of the job:
- Mixed clinical workload with opportunities to develop special interests, teaching, or research involvement
- Supportive multidisciplinary team including experienced nursing, administrative, and management staff
- Modern, well-equipped practice serving a welcoming and diverse community
- To provide leadership as well as a clinical commitment
- Provide consultation and appropriate clinical management of patients attending the practice, or to those where a home visit is clinically necessary
- Provide one on-call session per week
- To keep accurate and legible records of all patient contacts and contribute to electronic data recording and audit as directed by the service.
About us:
We are a supportive friendly practice with experienced GP Partners, Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Practice nurses. We have an open door policy so you are never on your own. We follow the BMA contract with 15 minute appointments, with an example session of 10 face to face appointments, 2 telephone calls and SDL time inbuilt into the weekly timetable. This is a training practice so we are able to support a newly qualified GP and also welcome experienced GPs. We have a stable practice population of 10,500 patients looked after by a team of 4 partners, 2 salaried GPs, 3 ANPs, 3 practice nurses and 2 HCAs who are all supported by a hard-working and supportive reception and admin team.
We are also very fortunate to work in an Integrated Care Centre housing the Community Nursing team, Same Day Emergency Care, Minor Injuries and Outreach Visiting Practitioners. We have a total triage system where the on call GP will see all requests to the practice and direct them towards an appointment, redirect to appropriate service, or call the patient directly. We all share the on call which is restricted to morning or afternoon session. You are fully supported while on call.
Cardigan is a historic town with a fantastic culture of excellent food, arts, and a strong sense of community. We are rural with a farming community so your short commute may need to take into account cows milking times and tractors on the road. We have surfing, coastal walks and countryside on your doorstep.
Job responsibilities:
The post-holder will manage and be responsible for a defined caseload of patients and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.
Clinical Responsibilities:
- In accordance with the Practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties. These will include surgery consultations, telephone and video consultations, triaging patients on the triage list, on-call doctor duties, visiting patients at home, checking, and signing repeat prescriptions, dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.
- Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.
- Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
- Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
- In consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health.
- Providing counselling and health education.
- Admitting or discharging patients to and from relevant caseloads and referring to other care providers as appropriate.
- Recording clear and factual consultation notes to agreed standards.
- Prescribing in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate.
- In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within Primary Care.
Other Responsibilities:
- Awareness of and compliance with all relevant Practice policies/guidelines, e.g., prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety.
- A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice.
- Contributing to the development of computer-based patient records.
- Contributing to the summarising of patient records and Read-Coding patient data.
- Attending training and events organised by the Practice or other agencies, where appropriate.
- Contribution to the Implementation of Services.
- Apply Practice policies, standards, and guidance.
- Discuss with other members of the team how the policies, standards and guidelines will affect own work.
- Participate in audit where appropriate.
- Work alongside and with the other GPs, practice nurses, practice manager, reception, and administration staff.
- Work alongside and with external providers including care home staff, district nurses and hospital teams.
Contribution to Usual GP Workload:
- Complete routine daily surgery.
- Complete on-call surgeries shared pro rata between all our GPs.
- Complete a pro-rata share of paperwork (after full clinical document management has been completed by our administration team).

- Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards.

Person Specification:
- Full GMC Registration with a license to practice and entry on the GP Register
- Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in General Practice / Certificate Confirming Eligibility for General Practice Registration (CEGPR), or equivalent
- Included on a Medical Performers List or eligible
- Evidence of continuous professional development
Experience:
- GMC-registered GP with a licence to practise
