We are seeking a full-time Senior Lecturer in Occupational Therapy to join the Occupational Therapy team within the School of Healthcare Sciences.
Teaching Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality teaching and contribute to the pedagogic development of the subject area.
- Identify and lead opportunities for curriculum innovations and enhancements, including new modules and programmes, conducting programme evaluations and regularly reviewing course content and materials.
- Act as module leader ensuring delivery of teaching in line with current curricular requirements, developing and applying innovative and appropriate teaching techniques and material which create interest, understanding and enthusiasm among students.
- Undertake work associated with examinations, such as setting and marking assessments and providing student feedback.
- Act as a Personal Tutor and provide pastoral support to students, including supervising the work of undergraduates and postgraduates, co‑supervision of postgraduate research students (PGR) and acting as a PGR progress review panel member as required.
Research Responsibilities
- Undertake and lead research relevant to the field that contributes to the overall research excellence of the School.
- Publish high‑quality publications in peer‑reviewed academic journals.
- Apply for external research funding to sustain research activities.
- Participate in national and international conferences, seminars and other academic and professional forums to disseminate the results of one\’s own research and develop research networks.
- Participate in School and University research activities.
Leadership, Strategic and Administrative Responsibilities
- Provide academic leadership by coordinating the work of others to ensure areas of research/degree courses are organised and delivered effectively.
- Be involved in departmental level strategic planning and contribute to wider strategic planning processes in the University.
- Provide opportunities for staff development aimed at improving skills and knowledge in research and learning and teaching.
- Undertake and lead operational administrative responsibilities as requested by Head of School and senior management team.
- Engage effectively with professional, commercial and public sector organisations, and other academic institutions regionally, nationally and internationally to raise awareness of the School\’s profile, cultivate strategically valuable alliances and pursue opportunities for collaboration across a range of activities.
- Any other duties not included above but consistent with the role.
Qualifications and Essential Criteria
- Postgraduate degree at PhD level in a related subject area and relevant clinical experience.
- Postgraduate Certificate in University Teaching and Learning or equivalent qualification or experience.
- Substantial teaching experience at undergraduate/postgraduate level, demonstrating teaching innovation and course development and design.
- Proven ability to design, deliver and continuously develop modules across the School\’s teaching programmes.
- Established expertise and proven track record of research and/or relevant industrial experience with application to Occupational Therapy.
- Established national and growing international reputation within academic field, with proven record of publications in national and international journals and/or other research outputs.
- Proven record of contributing and leading successful research bids.
- Proven record of academic leadership and ability to provide appropriate pastoral support to students, appreciate the needs of individual students and their circumstances and to act as a personal tutor.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to disseminate complex and conceptual ideas clearly and confidently to others using high level skills and range of media.
- Evidence of collaborations with practice/wider industry.
- Proven ability to adapt to the changing requirements of the Higher Education community.
- Evidence of ability to participate in and develop both internal and external networks and utilise them to enhance the teaching and research activities of the School.
- Proven record of taking responsibility for academically related administration.
Applicants should hold a PhD (or equivalent), possess relevant clinical expertise. Current registration as an Occupational Therapist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) is essential. An enhanced criminal records declaration will be required.
