The College of Biomedical and Life Sciences is currently looking to appoint a marketing and communications professional to support the activities of the College and all its constituent Schools. The successful candidate will work to significantly enhance the way our Schools present themselves to the outside world, as well as communicating effectively with a diverse range of both internal and external customers and delivering a mix of communications activity that will inform, inspire, involve and influence.
We are seeking an individual with exceptional communication skills and the ability to interpret complex information into high quality, engaging and creative written copy. Experience of student recruitment, supporting the implementation of marketing campaigns and liaising with external agencies would be advantageous, but not essential. Ideally, we are looking for an energetic and enthusiastic individual who is passionate about developing a career in Communications. Someone who is creative, eager to learn, and full of exciting ideas.
You will report directly to the Marketing and Communications Manager within the College of Biomedical and Life Sciences.
The College of Biomedical and Life Sciences is a vibrant academic community, which undertakes innovative research and provides state-of-the-art learning facilities. This position is full-time, 35 hours per week fixed term until 31st July 2026. Secondment opportunity welcome - please note for Cardiff University members of staff interested in this post on a secondment basis, permission will need to be sought from your current Line Manager before applying.
Salary: £25,249 - £26,093 per annum (Grade 3). Please be aware that appointments to roles at Cardiff University are usually made at bottom of scale unless in exceptional circumstances.

JOB PURPOSE
Support the Marketing and Communications team to deliver a wide range of innovative communications activity that will inform, inspire, involve, and influence. Assist with marketing campaigns, content creation, social media management, and internal / external communications. Take a proactive role in supporting our events programme, providing excellent digital and administrative support. Provide an exceptional service to all our customers and work collaboratively across the University to enhance the way we present ourselves to the outside world.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work collaboratively with communications staff at College level and across Cardiff University to ensure an integrated approach to marketing and communications.
- Assist in the development of engaging content for various communications channels, including website, social media, and email campaigns.
- Assist in managing social media accounts, including content scheduling, monitoring engagement, and responding to comments/messages.
- Generate creative ideas for campaigns and contribute to content development.
- Contribute to the creation of innovative visual content, such as graphics, images, and videos for use across our digital platforms.
- Assist with the development of communications plans in support of College strategy.
- Develop a programme of upcoming activity and make recommendations to improve communications impact and effectiveness.
- Support market research activity, such as focus groups and surveys, to gather insights and contribute to the development of campaign strategies.
- Support the Digital Communications Manager to closely monitor and report on metrics, including web analytics, social media engagement, and email campaign performance.
- Assist in analysing data to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement. Provide insights and recommendations to optimise marketing campaigns.
- Support the delivery of a programme of marketing activity to support student recruitment at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
- Work closely with colleagues across the University to maximise conversion and enhance student satisfaction.
- Deliver high quality communications, ensuring consistency and compliance with the key communications messages of Cardiff University. Adhering to quality standards, branding, design, accessibility and textual style guidelines.
- Work closely with members of the team to proof-read and edit marketing materials to ensure accuracy and brand consistency.
- Assist with the delivery of specific communications projects / campaigns as directed by the Marketing and Communications Manager.
- Undertake a variety of administrative duties as required to support the Marketing and Communications Manager.

Essential Criteria
- Some experience in a marketing or communications role including experience of digital marketing, website content management and social media.
- Able to demonstrate some professional knowledge within specialist discipline to give advice and guidance to internal and external customers.
- Proven ability to communicate conceptually detailed and complex information effectively and professionally with a wide range of people, incorporating excellent writing skills and the ability to tailor communications to target a range of different audiences.
- Ability to use your initiative to solve problems and respond to queries, finding and proposing the best solution.
- Self-motivated with an enthusiastic, proactive, flexible and adaptable approach to work.
- Excellent communication skills with an eagerness to learn and develop within the communications profession.
- Ability to plan and organise your own workload within agreed timelines as set by your Line Manager.
- Experience of using common office IT packages (e.g. MS Office, e-mail etc.).
- Ability to carry out a variety of administrative tasks, including writing clearly and concisely.
- Ability to work well with your team, knowing how to give advice, guidance and feedback (to colleagues and members of the public) as appropriate.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience of working in a Higher Education environment.
- Fluency in Welsh, written and oral.
