As a Student Engagement Officer working within the Learning and Teaching Academy with a team of professionals engaging with students, you will provide support to the designated school(s). You will be responsible for supporting student voice practices, working closely with student voice leaders in the school(s) and the University Communications Team. This includes overseeing and supporting a variety of systems for seeking feedback from students, analysing feedback and student inquiries to identify trends and provide guidance, working with colleagues in the school(s) to ensure that the University acts on feedback and provides support to communicate the results to students where necessary.

You may also provide additional specialist support in relevant areas that enhance the student experience, working with colleagues across the institution to act on student feedback. As a key member of the Professional Services Team in the school(s), this role will involve close collaboration with students, school teams, School Manager(s), academic leader(s) for student voice, and the Student Voice Manager in the Learning and Teaching Academy. As a worker with strong connections to the Student Communications Team and a member of a network of Student Engagement Officers in the schools, you will ensure that the University responds to local, thematic, and cross-institutional issues and opportunities.

This is a full-time position (35 hours per week), fixed term until 31 December 2025. Salary: £33,482 - £36,130 per year (Grade 5). Successful candidates will typically start at the bottom of the scale.

Main Duties:

  • Support and coordinate student voice activities in the school(s), working closely with the school leader(s) for student voice.
  • Provide professional advice and guidance on student voice and engagement processes and procedures to internal and external customers, using common sense and creativity when suggesting best actions where appropriate and ensuring that complex and conceptual issues are understood.
  • Oversee and support internal and external surveys for students as needed, coordinating schedules and promotional campaigns, analysing data, and ensuring that the University addresses student feedback and acts upon it.
  • Analyse and investigate specific issues arising from student feedback, including internal and external surveys, and collaborate with others to formulate recommendations for developments that enhance the student experience.
  • Work closely with the central Student Communications Team to ensure a consistent approach to conveying messages related to student voice.
  • Work closely with the Student Voice Manager in the Learning and Teaching Academy to develop and support student engagement and voice in the school(s), proactively working with colleagues to improve knowledge.
  • Foster working relationships with key contact points, creating appropriate communication links with schools/University Directorates and external bodies as needed.
  • Create specific working groups involving colleagues from across the University to achieve the objectives of the school(s).
  • Occasionally supervise specific project teams to achieve key objectives.
  • Carry out a variety of duties to support the work of enhancing the student experience in the school(s).

Essential Criteria:

  • Qualifications and Education: Degree/NVQ Level 4, or equivalent professional experience/membership.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Experience: Significant experience of working in student engagement, education, or student support.
  • The ability to demonstrate professional knowledge of the relevant discipline to provide advice and guidance to internal and external customers.
  • Able to establish standard office systems and procedures and make improvements as appropriate.
  • Customer Service, Communication, and Teamwork: The ability to convey detailed and complex conceptual information effectively and professionally to a wide range of people.
  • Evidence of the ability to consider customer needs and adapt services accordingly to ensure quality service delivery.
  • Planning, Analysis, and Problem Solving: Evidence of the ability to solve significant problems by taking the initiative and being creative, identifying and proposing practical solutions where outcomes may vary.
  • Evidence of having a clear understanding of key developments in the relevant discipline.
  • Evidence of the ability to work independently according to deadlines, planning and prioritising your own work and that of others and monitoring progress.
  • Other: Willingness to train and develop further.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Postgraduate/professional qualification.
  • Experience of working in higher education.
  • Fluency in Welsh, both written and spoken.
