Welcome Centre Staff [Tuesdays and/or Thursdays]
To ensure the smooth running of the Students’ Union welcome desk which provides a key point of contact for all members, guests and staff for a variety of services and information.
Must have availability on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays,there will be scope to pick up further shifts in the week if available!
There may be future opportunity to take on additional responsibilities or gain experience as a Retail Assistant in our Love Cardiff shop.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate the main switchboard promptly and politely, relaying all calls and forward messages if appropriate.
- Deal with enquiries via face to face, email, social media channels or telephone in a professional and friendly manner. In keeping with Cardiff Students’ Union customer service standards.
- Be aware of daily activities within the building to deal with enquiries appropriately.
- Be proactive in ensuring signage around the building is current, removing any unsolicited advertising and support departments with any signage that needs displaying around the building.
- Be a Students’ Union ambassador and fully understand what services and facilities the Students Union provides.
- Engage with customers to create a warm and welcome environment that encourages members and guests to visit again and refer others to the Students’ Union.
- Support advertising sales with commercial stall bookings, greeting clients and ensure set up is ready on arrival.
- Support all departments with membership services stall bookings, greeting students, staff and ensure set up is ready on arrival.
- Support the Sales and Customer Service department with the operations of key annual events. Including, Graduation, Varsity, Freshers.
- To be responsible for making optimum use of working time including but not limited to, queue management, deploying staff and responding to changing needs of the welcome desk area (i.e., cleanliness, presentation, and general housekeeping).
- Work with department Managers to develop rolling improvement plans to ensure best practice.
- Support security and cover duties during lunch breaks.
- Manage the distribution of mail to appropriate person/department.
- Deal with Lost property and follow necessary procedures.
GENERAL
- Ensure the core values, vision and strategic plan of CUSU are prevalent in their personal attitude and approach to all work and decision making.
- Demonstrate and engender a positive, helpful and welcoming attitude to fellow staff, student members and customers.
- Maintain a flexible approach to duties and be prepared to undertake such tasks as may from time to time be required by their line manager.
- To be responsible for their own health and safety and observe all regulations in relation to the Health and Safety at Work Act.

- Reviewing procedures
