Key Summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join our Student Futures student staff team as a Student Futures Assistant. You will be the first point of contact for students visiting our Student Futures Hub in the Centre for Student Life, designed to enhance the overall student experience, located at the heart of Cardiff University. This role is perfect for students seeking a rewarding and flexible part-time job that fits around their studies. But this isn’t just any student job—it’s a chance to support other students in an advisory and customer service capacity. You’ll also have the opportunity to contribute to exciting projects, showcase your creativity through content creation, and play a key role in ensuring the student voice is actively represented and embedded within our service.
Extensive training will be provided to respond to front-line queries about all aspects of employability support. You will also receive training on how to provide advice and feedback on CVs, cover letters, interview techniques, and LinkedIn profiles. Your part-time role will be an integral part of the Student Futures team and we will welcome your insight and advice in terms of how the service is delivered.
We are looking for enthusiastic and committed students with excellent customer service skills who are passionate about helping other students prepare for their futures.

About Student Futures
The Student Futures mission is to empower students to make informed career decisions that enable them to achieve their potential when they graduate. We develop students’ employability by helping with understanding options, planning, developing skills and graduate attributes, doing work experience, thinking about entrepreneurship and business ideas or participating in work, study or volunteering abroad. Students can access information and advice in appointments (virtual and in-person), at events or online. We run a wide range of employer fairs and events, and we advertise jobs and work experience opportunities at home and abroad.
The role will involve:
- You will be the first point of contact for people entering the Student Futures hub, duties will include:
- Greeting and assisting those who enter the Student Futures hub.
- Proactively helping with both simple and more complex enquiries from internal and external stakeholders (students, Cardiff University staff, employers) in a professional manner, following established procedures, referring complex enquiries to relevant staff members.
- Ensuring all relevant facts and information about queries and issues is recorded and passed on.
- Conducting brief CV, cover letter, LinkedIn profile checks and interview support with students, providing suggestions for improvement (training will be provided).
- Assisting in the delivery of employability workshops alongside Student Futures staff, ensuring the student voice is actively represented and integrated.
- Supporting students with queries, promoting the support on offer and sign-posting where appropriate. Queries will relate to all aspects of the Student Futures service.
- Completing tasks to support the Student Futures service such as seeking feedback from students, supporting events, undertaking research tasks or writing blogs.
- Helping to set up, organise, run and promote employer events including welcoming employer guests and directing them where appropriate.
- Booking in students who arrive for appointments with Advisers or for workshops and events.
- Proactively promoting Student Futures opportunities to students by contributing to online and in-person marketing techniques, including conducting lecture shout-outs and outreach activities.
- Contribute to content on the Student Futures and Cardiff University social media pages. This will include creating video content involving yourself and others, as well as leading on Instagram takeovers.

You’ll work 7 hours per week during term time, split into two 3.5-hour shifts per week. Shifts are available Monday to Friday between 9:30 AM – 1:00 PM and 1:00 PM – 4:30 PM. The role runs from the week of 29 September 2025 to the week of 27 April 2026. There will be opportunities to take on additional shifts on an ad-hoc basis.

Please note:
- You must be available for in-person training during enrolment week 2025, the week commencing Monday 22 September. You will also need to complete some online training which you can do in your own time during the first two weeks of shifts. You will be paid for the in-person training.
- As part of the role, you will be required to sign up and take part in the Cardiff Award – a programme to help you develop your employability skills and attributes.
- You will be required to register with Jobshop and complete the right to work check before you can start training and begin the role.
- This opportunity is for those who will be students at Cardiff University during the 2025-2026 academic year.
- This role is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
