Under the direction of the Deputy Head of Facilities (Hard Services), you will deliver a broad range of essential maintenance, repair, development, and logistical support functions across the Facilities Department. This role requires the application of practical trade expertise, particularly in carpentry, to support the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the organisation’s built environment. Acting as a key technical resource within the maintenance team, you will take a proactive, hands‑on approach to the delivery of both planned and reactive maintenance activities. The role demands a high level of autonomy, alongside effective collaboration with other team members, to ensure that all facilities are maintained to consistently high operational and safety standards.

Core responsibilities include undertaking a diverse portfolio of maintenance and minor works, such as:

  • the repair, adjustment, and replacement of door furniture and locking mechanisms
  • installation and modification of shelving and fixed furniture
  • upkeep of a wide range of internal fixtures including sanitary fittings (e.g. toilet seats, soap dispensers, mirrors)

The role also encompasses routine maintenance of drainage systems and plant‑related equipment, requiring an awareness of building services infrastructure. In addition, the post holder will be responsible for supporting statutory compliance activities through the upkeep of plant rooms and boiler houses, ensuring adherence to relevant health and safety regulations. Duties will also include the maintenance of lighting systems, contributing to the overall functionality and safety of the building.
