This is an exciting opportunity to join the business as the first dedicated Health & Safety professional, giving the successful candidate the chance to shape, build, and influence health & safety processes from the ground up. Role Overview

We are seeking a proactive and knowledgeable Health & Safety Advisor to support and develop health and safety standards across our Wolverhampton depot and leased storage yard. This is a hands-on role requiring strong communication skills, the ability to produce clear and practical safety documentation, and confidence in delivering training and presentations to colleagues at all levels. The successful candidate will play a key role in building, improving, and embedding safe systems of work, helping to shape a positive safety culture across the business. With the company continuing to grow and acquire additional businesses, there is clear scope for progression into a management-level position in the future.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, write, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) across all operational areas
  • Create and manage Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) for all activities
  • Design and deliver site inductions for new starters, visitors, and contractors
  • Provide clear, concise, and effective health & safety training, including:
  • PPE requirements and correct usage
  • Safe use of equipment and machinery
  • Manual handling practices
  • Safe walkways, traffic management, and yard safety
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance
  • Identify hazards, assess risks, and recommend practical control measures
  • Promote and help embed a strong health & safety culture throughout the workforce
  • Communicate health & safety expectations clearly to employees at all levels
  • Support incident reporting, investigations, and corrective actions
  • Keep health & safety documentation up to date and compliant with current legislation
  • Skills & Experience

    • Strong written skills with the ability to produce clear, concise, and practical documentation
    • Confident communicator with the ability to present and engage groups of employees
    • Experience delivering training and inductions
    • Good understanding of UK health & safety legislation and best practice
    • Practical, solutions-focused approach to safety
    • Ability to influence and work collaboratively with colleagues
    • Organised, proactive, and capable of managing multiple priorities

    Qualifications

    • Health & Safety qualifications essential (e.g. NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent)
    • Additional health & safety qualifications are desirable
