Principle Duties And Responsibilities
Cardiff School of Sport and Health Sciences are seeking a suitably experienced candidate/s to contribute to the Welsh and English language research methods portfolio across the undergraduate programmes of the school. The postholder will help develop students’ understanding of how research methods can be applied in a range of settings disciplines (e.g., Psychology, Speech and Language Therapy, Allied Health Professions). The ability to deliver through the medium of English and Welsh is an essential part of this role. The postholder will demonstrate a firm commitment to all aspects of learning and teaching, especially being able to support students to develop their skills and confidence at foundation and undergraduate levels. The postholder will adopt a range of teaching and learning strategies to enhance students understanding of research methods and develop their digital literacy, through the use of blended learning. The postholder will work closely with discipline member teams (i.e., the Applied Psychology and Speech and Language Therapy teams), and contribute to the module leadership and delivery of research methods modules at all levels of taught delivery (specifically Welsh medium modules).
The successful candidate would be expected to bring experience and knowledge of student‑centred pedagogical approaches for research methods delivery and demonstrate an appreciation of different paradigms, methodologies and research designs. The successful candidate would be expected to bring experience and knowledge related to blended learning approaches to the role, with the ability to work effectively across large, diverse teams of research methods academics. The role would also be expected to contribute to learning and teaching within their own specialist subject area, which may fall with the field of Health, or within a broader discipline area aligned to research methods. The successful candidate(s) would be considered for a 1.0 FTE role or for a fractional role where appropriate (e.g., 0.5 FTE).
What We Are Looking For
- Ability to develop teaching and/or research programmes and the provision of learning support through the medium of Welsh and English.
- A good level of knowledge relevant to the subject and professional area of research methods.
- A sound understanding of student‑centred pedagogy related to the delivery of research methods education at undergraduate level, including blended learning.
- Ability to design teaching and learning material.
- Ability to employ appropriate assessment methods.
- Ability to identify areas for improvement and to use initiative and problem‑solving skills to improve performance.
- Ability to communicate and disseminate complex and conceptual ideas in a variety of ways - presentations at conferences, reports on findings, publications, feedback etc. A sound understanding of research/innovation and scholarly activity.
- Experience of Higher Education teaching or equivalent.
- Experience of providing academic leadership and first line support/mentoring for other colleagues.
- A good honours degree
- An earned doctoral level qualification or close to completion.
- Ability to achieve Fellow Status as part of the Higher Education Academy’s Professional Recognition scheme, within agreed timescales (as soon as is practicably possible and definitely within three years of commencement of employment).
