This opportunity is only available to students at the University. You will support the Global Student Advisory Service by welcoming newly arrived international students primarily in September, January and May and helping them navigate unfamiliar university and UK procedures. You will offer guidance and reassurance to students, fostering a sense of belonging and community and provide one‑to‑one support where necessary. You will also participate in student‑focused activities throughout the academic year where required.

As a representative of Cardiff Metropolitan University, you will always set a positive example, acting in a professional manner by showing respect for persons of all backgrounds, ethnicities and abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in welcoming students, giving them general advice about university life and Cardiff and answering their questions.
  • Being responsible for signposting students and referring any complex/sensitive student issues to the Global Student Advisory Service.
  • Taking groups of international students on tours around campus.

Qualifications

As an International Student Ambassador, you will bring a strong understanding of the challenges faced by international students, along with knowledge of different cultures and religions. You’ll be confident in promoting Cardiff Metropolitan University and the wider city, including transport links, services, and UK university procedures. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills are essential, as is the ability to support and motivate people of varying backgrounds in a friendly, inclusive, and professional manner. A commitment to cultural awareness, equal opportunities, and delivering a positive student experience is key to this role.
