Principal duties and responsibilities

  • You will be required to make a significant contribution to the development and programme management of our taught MSc in Forensic Psychology.
  • The role includes acting as the Programme Director of the MSc in Forensic Psychology (which recruits approx. 30 students per year) and liaising with the Programme Director of the MSc Health Psychology (recruiting approx. 20 students per year) on shared modules and in meeting the BPS requirements for both programmes.
  • In addition, you will be expected to contribute to the delivery of the postgraduate Forensic Psychology modules, shared MSc Health Psychology modules, and elements of the BSc Psychology & BSc Psychology & Criminology programmes (depending on your area of expertise and experience).
  • Other qualities include being enthusiastic about student‑centred pedagogy, making a significant contribution to the research profile of the department, employability, and professional engagement with relevant internal and external organisations, at a regional, national and international level.
  • You will be expected to contribute to the research profile of the department and to meet the qualitative and quantitative requirements for submission to the next Research Excellence Framework.

What we are looking for

  • An in‑depth knowledge of specialist subject and professional area.
  • An in‑depth understanding of pedagogy.
  • An in‑depth understanding of research/enterprise and scholarly activity.
  • Ability to design, develop and deliver a range of programmes at various levels.
  • Ability to review programme design on a regular basis to ensure compliance with quality standards and academic regulations and to make alterations where appropriate.
  • Ability to contribute to the achievement of the School Development Plan and the institution's strategic planning processes.
  • Ability to develop research objectives, prepare proposals, carry out independent research, referee and contribute to peer assessment.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for strategic development/improvement e.g. research projects, new courses, consultancy.
  • Ability to identify (through the analysis of appropriate management information) areas requiring improved performance e.g. student numbers, student satisfaction.
  • Experience of HE teaching or equivalent.
  • Experience of providing academic leadership and first line support/mentoring for other colleagues.
  • Experience of engaging in pedagogic and practitioner research.
  • Ability to achieve Fellow Status as part of the Higher Education Academy’s Professional Recognition scheme, within agreed timescales (as soon as is practicably possible and definitely within three years of commencement of employment).
