Due to the continued and projected growth, Western Learning Federation (Ty Gwyn School) is looking to appoint a dedicated and inspiring leader to the role of Deputy Head of School. The successful candidate will work alongside the current Deputy Head of School to support the Head of School and the Executive leadership team across the Western Learning Federation.

We require an experienced leader who is passionate about the learning and wellbeing of pupils with ALN. The ability to lead but also work as part of a team is essential. Strategic collaboration within and outside of the school and federation is a key aspect of the role as is compatibility with the school and federation values.

Ty Gwyn is a special school that supports pupils aged 3-19 with a range of additional learning needs including profound and complex medical needs as well as pupils with Autism. There are currently over 260 pupils on roll, with numbers expected to rise to 300 in September 2026. As such the successful candidate will join at an exciting time when Ty Gwyn is expanding its site, staff teams, classrooms and intervention spaces.

As part of the Western Learning Federation, Ty Gwyn School offers a bespoke professional learning offer for all leadership postings. This ensures that staff have the right skills set to provide the best possible experiences for our pupils and staff have the right skills to provide the best possible care and support for pupils with additional needs.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Head of School and the Executive leadership team across the Western Learning Federation.
  • Collaborate strategically within and outside of the school and federation.
  • Lead while also working as part of a team and align with the school and federation values.

  • Experience as an effective leader with a passion for learning and wellbeing of pupils with ALN.
  • Ability to lead and work as part of a team; strong collaboration and strategic thinking.
