Overview

The Bilingual Cardiff Team is looking to employ a Corporate Apprentice (Level 2) Bilingual Administration Support Assistant based at County Hall, Atlantic Wharf, Cardiff, CF10 4U. The role contributes to the Service by providing support and advice on the implementation of the Council\’s adopted Welsh language standards, the delivery of high-quality Welsh language services, and the provision of Welsh to English and English to translation services.

Responsibilities

  • Provide an efficient and effective service and respond to customer enquiries by telephone, e-mail and face-to-face.
  • Administer Bilingual\’s Cardiff digital translation log.
  • Communicate with Bilingual Cardiff\’s translation service customers to confirm return dates and extensions for translation.
  • Undertake general office administration.
  • Create translation billing reports.
  • Take minutes for internal and external meetings.
  • Use software applications such as Word, Outlook, Excel, SharePoint and Teams.
  • Support Bilingual Cardiff events with schools and other stakeholders.
  • Develop knowledge and understanding of the work and responsibilities of working in Local Government in Cardiff and how the Bilingual Cardiff team supports the Council to deliver services in Welsh.

Requirements

  • Fluent spoken and written English and Welsh to communicate with colleagues and customers, take messages, or ask questions to gain understanding.
  • GCSE Grade C or above in Welsh.
  • GCSE Grade G or above in Maths or Essential Skills Wales Level 1 in Application of Number or equivalent.
  • GCSE Grade G or above in English or Essential Skills Wales Level 1 in Communication or equivalent.
  • You do not have a degree (graduates are not eligible to apply for Level 2 apprentice roles).
  • You are not currently studying for, nor have previously achieved, the same apprenticeship qualification (or NVQ) offered in this role (Digital Application Support at Level 2 or higher).

Desirable

  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of the work of the Council.
  • Demonstrate an interest in the advertised role and in the work of the team.
  • Examples of work experience gained whether voluntary or paid in any role in any sector.
  • Able to use a computer and software applications, to any level, relevant to the role.
