Overview
The role involves providing occupational therapy assessments and interventions to support recovery and facilitate discharge from the inpatient ward.
It includes establishing roles and routines, engaging patients in meaningful activities, relapse prevention and carrying out home assessments to plan equipment and support needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct OT assessments and treatment interventions in both inpatient and home settings.
- Enable discharge planning by identifying roles, routines, equipment and support requirements.
- Engage patients in meaningful activities and develop mobility and relapse prevention strategies.
- Work closely with the multidisciplinary team, the Larch Home First team and the discharge team, participating in MDT meetings, case conferences and care review meetings.
- Assist in the day‑to‑day running and development of the therapeutic group programme, including writing protocols, risk assessment and evaluation.
- Contribute to projects and service developments within the team and help improve service delivery.
- Provide guidance and supervision to OT colleagues, support staff and OT students wherever applicable.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree or diploma in occupational therapy.
- HCPC registration as an occupational therapist, or a student in the process of registration.
- Experience working with people with mental health difficulties and older adults.
- Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience running therapy groups or group activities.
- Experience in supervision, teaching or mentoring roles.
- Additional Requirements
- Disclosure and Barring Service check (subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1975).
- Willingness to undertake regular clinical and professional supervision and yearly appraisals.
- Open to newly qualified OT graduates, final‑year students awaiting HCPC registration, and experienced OTs.
