Overview
Consultant Psychiatrist – part‑time (18.75 hours per week) at Gateway Recovery Centre, Widnes, serving men and women in specialist inpatient, rehabilitation and low secure settings.
Gateway Recovery Centre has 72 beds across 6 wards: 3 wards for women (one acute, two level 2 rehabilitation) and 3 wards for men (specialist rehabilitation for ASD, low secure, rehabilitation for older men with complex needs).
The team includes 4.5 consultants and you will deliver clinical care to a dedicated caseload.
You will be supported by a practice nurse, an enhanced GP service, a dedicated supervisor and a medical secretarial team.
Specialty doctor cover is available for the acute ward.
Excellent CPD and a large peer group of high‑calibre consultants from varied sub‑specialties are also available.
Responsibilities
- Provide RC and consultant psychiatrist input to inpatients on a 0.5 WTE basis, carrying a case load of 8–12 patients depending on the nature of the service.
- Participate in a low‑frequency second‑on‑call rota for the region.
- Assess new referrals to ensure the service meets the needs of admitted patients.
- Provide leadership to the clinical team and contribute to clinical governance and service development.
- Maintain good relationships with external agencies such as community teams and commissioning bodies.
- Contribute to the training and education of staff.
Qualifications
- MRCPsych or equivalent.
- CCT in general adult psychiatry, forensic psychiatry, psychiatry of LD or medical psychotherapy preferred.
- Experience not on the specialist register but with AC status will be considered.
- Full GMC registration and an appraisal within the last 12 months.
- Section 12(2) approval and AC status.
- Experience working within an MDT providing care for patients with complex needs.
- Innovative, motivated and passionate with a good team ethos.
