Overview
We are delighted to offer an opportunity for an enthusiastic, innovative and highly motivated individual to join our department of anaesthesia and intensive care.
Our department is dedicated to developing and delivering a high quality consultant‑led perioperative care service as we embark on significant redevelopment and expansion of our critical care environment to future‑proof our service provision.
The successful applicant will join an established, successful, enthusiastic and ACSA accredited team delivering quality anaesthetic, peri‑operative and critical care services to the local West Dorset population and adjoining areas.
Responsibilities
- Provide anaesthetic support for the hospital's surgical teams including orthopaedics, ophthalmology, maxillo‑facial, ENT (adult and paediatric), obstetrics & gynaecology, urology, paediatric dental, colorectal, renal access and general surgery.
- Provide anaesthetic support in the radiology suite, endoscopy unit and for dental sedation.
- Deliver peri‑operative and critical care services to the population of West Dorset and the Purbecks.
- Commit to teaching within normal clinical work and accommodate a specialist interest to complement the skills of the successful appointee.
Qualifications
- Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice.
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCTs in Anaesthesia and ICM CESR or European Community Rights.
- Appropriate higher qualification in Anaesthesia (FRCA or equivalent).
- Appropriate higher qualification in Intensive Care Medicine or equivalent experience.
- 7 years clinical experience in Anaesthesia, including at least one year in the UK.
- Evidence of potential ability to cope with the demands of a DGH based Consultant.
- Willingness and ability to fulfil the general service elements of the job description.
- Evidence of leadership and service development.
- Ability to develop effective working relationships and team working.
- Understanding and participation in Clinical Governance.
- Knowledge of and direct involvement in audit.
- Knowledge of principles of research and evidence of involvement in research.
- Management training, organisational skills and strategic vision.
- Evidence of general management training and skills appropriate for the post.
- Evidence of ability to contribute to the strategic direction of the Trust and knowledge of organisational aspects of the NHS.
- Teaching and communication experience; ability to present effectively to an audience; ability to communicate effectively.
