Specialist Podiatrist in Wales

Cardiff and Vale Podiatry Services are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic and adaptable individual who is passionate about providing clinical excellence. This friendly busy department consists of approximately 45 staff and provides services across Cardiff and the Vale from multiple sites including community clinics, hospitals and patients' own homes.

Main duties of the job:

• Operate as an autonomous practitioner, in accordance with the Health Care Professions Council and local policy, to maintain and manage clinical caseload including delivery of a range of podiatric interventions.
• This will include the autonomous assessment, diagnosis, development, implementation and evaluation of individualised care plans for patients with a wide variety of clinical needs using evidence based patient centred principles.
• Support the development and implementation of service innovations within their areas of practice, as well as the development and dissemination of training to the Podiatry Team.
• Provide expert knowledge and promote clinical excellence adhering to evidence based clinical policies / pathways / clinical records / clinical governance / information systems.
• Comply with operational and clinical governance and assurance to ensure safe, efficient and effective care, compatible with professional and national clinical standards within Podiatry.
• Support the development of and take an active role in the training, supervision and mentoring of their peers, junior staff, Podiatry clinical assistants, HCSWs and undergraduate students.
• Participate in clinical rotational competency packages. Encourage and support junior staff in their participation.

Person Specification:

• Professional registration with HCPC as a Podiatrist with a BSc in Podiatric Medicine or equivalent Diploma in Podiatric Medicine and the ability to gain appropriate registered qualification for the supply and administration of prescriptions only medicines (POMS) within an agreed timescale.
• Local anesthetic certificate.
• Post graduate certificate/diploma or equivalent in relevant clinical area.
• Basic Life Support.
• Post graduate teaching certificate.

• Appropriate NHS podiatry post graduate experience or equivalent.
• Evidence of continued professional development in specialist fields.
• Experience of assessing and treating a range of At Risk Patients including Diabetics, Rheumatology, vascular insufficiency, wound management, terminally ill, mental health problems or learning disabilities.
• Experience of treating patients in domiciliary and clinical setting.
• Experience in producing chair side orthosis.
• Experience in manufacture of orthotics and prescription writing.
• Experience in supervision and delegation.
• Experience in audit/research.

• Ability to undertake specialist diagnostic assessments including Gait analysis, for suitability for nail surgery and undertaking lower limb risk classification.
• Good interpersonal skills to work well as part of the team.
• Ability to communicate effectively with a broad spectrum of the general public and health care professionals.

• Understanding of the podiatry professions clinical processes, procedures and agenda.
• Understanding of the requirements of Clinical Governance.
• Knowledge of Health and safety, COSHH regulations.
• Up to date knowledge of wound healing and dressings relevant to scope of practice.
• Current knowledge of NHS policies and strategies relevant to the post.
