Role Overview
We are seeking a Mental Health Practitioner for Wakefield CAMHS Eating Disorders Team.
The successful candidate will assess and treat young people with eating disorders, manage a caseload, and provide evidence‑informed care in collaboration with families and multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide assessment and treatment to children and young people with mental health needs related to eating disorders.
- Work autonomously and collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team, providing consultation for other agencies and professionals.
- Promote safeguarding and welfare of children and young people.
- Deliver routine and urgent assessment and interventions in keeping with evidence based practice and under supervision of a senior clinician.
- Support the delivery of a comprehensive CAMHS system, including working within the CAPA model.
- Apply safeguarding knowledge and guidelines in clinical work.
- Maintain a quality approach to patient care, demonstrating concentration and sustained effort in complex family issues.
- Manage own caseload, accessing support and guidance as needed.
- Operate within the clinical and case management supervision framework.
- Provide training, consultation and supervision to other service providers, partner agencies and junior staff on intensive interventions.
- Participate in the development, audit and review of service provision.
- Work extended hours alongside other specialist CAMHS practitioners as required.
- Collaborate with all services to provide coherent, coordinated mental health services for children and young people.
- Use IT systems (including Rio) to collect, keep and secure data appropriately.
- Participate in agreed clinical audit programme and report lessons learned.
- Comply with clinical and corporate governance frameworks.
- Support engagement of service stakeholders and users in service delivery improvement.
- Promote user/carer involvement in care planning and respect rights and wishes of individuals.
- Work in an innovative, child, young person and family centred way within a culture of continuous improvement.
- Apply Trust policies and procedures in instances of aggression, acute distress and disturbed mental health presentations.
- Maintain relevant professional registration and communicate concerns through the appropriate management processes.
- Required Experience and Qualifications
- Training and experience relating to specialist CAMHS.
- Experience delivering training to others.
- Relevant professional qualification (e. g. nursing or allied medical profession); diploma or relevant mental health profession.
- Membership of a professional body.
- Post‑registration qualification such as a degree.
- Postgraduate qualification in mental health (e. g. CBT, Family Therapy, Counselling) and teaching/assessing qualification.
- Good verbal and communication skills.
- Ability to manage own caseload.
- Negotiation and problem‑solving skills.
- Customer service orientation and effective record keeping, care planning, risk assessment writing.
- IT skills and teamwork capability.
- Ability to work across disciplines and manage multi‑agency tensions.
- Experience supervising or mentoring junior staff.
- Substantial post‑qualification experience, including work with children, young people and carers in mental health or complex care settings.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance (e. g. NHS Plan, Mental Health Legislation, Children’s Act).
- Experience of safeguarding children and young people.
- Knowledge of equality and diversity.
- A satisfactory sickness record over the previous two years.
- Current driving licence and access to a car during the working day (reasonable adjustments considered).
