Overview
Ward 14 is a 37‑bed unit specialising in care for surgical colorectal and urology patients (elective and emergency), emergency surgical patients and intestinal failure patients. The ward includes 11 enhanced recovery beds and 11 beds for surgical patients requiring specialist nutritional support. The nursing team is experienced and multidisciplinary, supporting professional development and high‑quality patient care.
Qualifications
- 1st Level NMC Registration
- Evidence of Professional Development
- Relevant degree or willingness to register for a degree
- Willingness to undertake relevant module/course NHS Experience
- Aware of Health Policies and the changing NHS environment
- Evidence of awareness of evidence‑based practice
Experience
- Suitable for newly qualified or experienced staff nurses
- Experience of maintaining accurate records
- Relevant clinical knowledge and experience of the specialty
- Willings to undertake NMC assessor and mentorship roles
Key Skills
- Good organisational and time‑management skills
- Ability to deal with an acute workload
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to recognise the importance of teamwork
- Competent in organising/prioritising own workload and that of others
- Strong problem‑solving abilities

Teaching Experience
- Student nurse assessor
- Evidence of ability to act as a preceptor/mentor to new staff
- Evidence of involvement in producing teaching strategies/packages

- Relevant clinical knowledge/experience of the specialty
- Evidence of an initiative which has changed or enhanced clinical practice
- Competent in organising own workload and that of others
- Good problem‑solving abilities
