Responsibilities
- Provide a dedicated, comprehensive service to people experiencing homelessness, being at risk of homelessness, and having substance-related problems or being at risk of relapse into substance use.
- Work closely with and provide advice and guidance to colleagues within the housing options team to integrate substance use intervention into care plans, increasing engagement and ongoing support where appropriate.
- Undertake specialist assessment and care coordination of individuals presenting with housing problems, including use of substances.
- Deliver interventions for substance use in both group and individual formats, holding a caseload of service users.
- Provide consultation, support and advice in relation to substance use issues.
- Offer a range of interventions to service users, including harm reduction interventions, ensuring work is evidence-based, up to date, and in accordance with current policy and legislation.
- Additional responsibilities include: providing harm reduction advice, information and support with an emphasis on safer drug use, safer sex, HIV, Hepatitis A, B and C, and other blood borne infections; offering Naloxone to all clients due to risks presenting or as a precautionary measure; facilitating access to BBV testing; maintaining a full caseload of clients as the case manager; working with the housing options team and other colleagues to reduce stigma for people who use drugs and alcohol, and for people with homelessness complexities; building relationships with service users who are homeless or at risk of being homeless to maximize engagement with substance use support in the community; providing access to long-term recovery support through recovery communities and LEROs; ensuring safety and inclusivity while delivering these services.
Qualifications
- Foundation Degree/HNC in a related field such as counselling, social work, nursing, psychology, human resources, social studies or equivalent experience.
- Considerable experience working with drug users.
- Commitment to and understanding of harm reduction and recovery approaches.
- Sound experience in techniques such as CBT, Motivational Interviewing and Solution Focused Therapy.
