Position Consultant Psychiatrist – Community Children and Young People Services (CYPS), North West Surrey, Unither House, Chertsey.
Key Responsibilities Provide assessment, diagnosis and treatment for children and young people (up to 18 years) with a wide range of mental health and neuro‑developmental conditions, including emotional difficulties, behavioural concerns, eating disorders, ADHD and complex presentations.
Offer clinical leadership: carry out assessments, hold a consultant caseload, support multidisciplinary team (MDT) discussions, and provide guidance and supervision to junior staff.
Maintain an average caseload of approximately 60 patients, performing 2‑3 monthly assessments and ensuring routine reviews – a 6‑week review followed by reviews every 2‑3 months.
Participate in an emergency out‑of‑hours rota, providing back‑up for junior doctors and professionals when young people are assessed in A in good standing with GMC regarding warnings and conditions.
Approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act (or within 6‑12 months of the interview/assessment) or equivalent.
Relevant higher degree or additional clinical qualifications (e. g., MD, Ph D, MSc, MRCPsych, or equivalent).
Management qualification or demonstrated interest in developing leadership skills.
Approved clinician status (or ability to achieve within three months of appointment).
Knowledge of NHS legislation, Department of Health guidance and literature, and the NHS strategic vision (High‑Quality Care for All).
Excellent clinical skills with a bio‑psycho‑social approach and ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty.
Experience working with a range of patient groups across different care settings (community, inpatient, specialist teams).
Experience in management and specific training qualifications or attendance at recognised teaching courses.
Publication record or audit/research projects, and ability to take a clinical leadership role in a multidisciplinary team.
Strong communication skills, both written and oral, for patients, families and professionals.
Ability to plan and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training relevant to this post.
Benefits £113,565 – £150,569 per annum (NHS Consultant grade) plus £149 fringe.
On‑call requirement.
