Responsibilities
- Deputise for the Principal Pharmacist and act as a specialist role model and expert in medical management within Women’s and Children’s Lead, managing clinical pharmacy services for women and paediatrics at Princess Royal University Hospital in conjunction with the Principal Pharmacist.
- Promote high‑quality, cost‑effective, patient‑focused pharmaceutical care.
- Act as a pharmacist independent prescriber to optimise the care of patients within Child Health.
- Ensure a high level of clinical pharmacy input to the care of patients within Women’s and Children’s specialties.
- Provide interface and discharge liaison and support.
- Actively participate in multidisciplinary ward rounds, delivering and promoting high‑quality, cost‑effective, patient‑focused pharmaceutical care.
- Provide patient and carer education and close liaison across interfaces.
- Promote safe drug use within the Women’s and Children’s specialties.
- Develop, implement and audit local guidelines.
- Supervise and train pharmacy staff at ward level.
- Provide education and training of healthcare professionals within and outside the Trust.
- Conduct regular financial reporting, drug usage and expenditure forecasting, and drug budget management.
- Participate in practice and clinical research and audit.
- Work with the Principal Pharmacist to extend the boundaries of professional practice within the Care Group.
- Lead clinical pharmacy services for Women’s Health and Paediatric patients treated within the Care Group in conjunction with the Principal Pharmacist.
- Propose and implement policies and procedures designed to improve the pharmacy service to patients in the Trust, in line with national and international consensus guidelines.
- Ensure services are in line with local and national policies, guidelines and frameworks.
- Contribute to and adhere to clinical pharmacy service standards.
- Act as a specialist practitioner within the field and as an expert pharmacist within the Care groups.
- Support the Principal Pharmacist in monitoring drug expenditure within the Care Group and provide accurate expenditure information, with appropriate analysis, to the Clinical Director and General Manager.
Qualifications
- MPharm (Masters) or Postgraduate Diploma in Pharmacy Practice, or equivalent qualification/experience.
- Registered Pharmacist (1‑year competency assessed and examined professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council).
- Registered Independent Prescriber or willingness to complete this qualification.
- Experience of practice research or audit.
- Specialist clinical knowledge and skills relevant to the area of practice.

The position requires a Disclosure and Barring Service Check.
Submission to the DBS is required to check for any previous criminal convictions, subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
