As a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse you will provide expert advice, support and interventions to families with children in the first years of life, empowering parents to make decisions that positively affect their family's future health and wellbeing. The role is delivered as part of a 6‑month preceptorship programme, with regular clinical supervision, ongoing safeguarding support and access to a wide variety of training opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Deliver the full‑service offer of mandated contacts under the Healthy Child Programme.
- Collaborate with other agencies to promote health and wellbeing, and improve early identification of need and risks to enhance child outcomes.
- Empower individuals, families and communities to influence and access services and information, acting as an advocate—particularly for families who find services difficult to access.
- Contribute to safeguarding of children in partnership with local and national partners, using national and local policies to guide professional decision‑making and action.
- Visit multiple sites across a wide geographical area; therefore the post holder must hold a valid UK driving licence and have access to a suitable means of transport.
- Work collaboratively with other health care and service providers to ensure seamless delivery of services for local families and communities.
- Partake in group facilitation with parents, students or colleagues.
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience working in partnership with parents using a solution‑focused approach, with appropriate assessment skills and tools that demonstrate child and family strengths and support needs, focused on the six high‑impact areas.
- Understanding of the roles and contributions of members of the health‑visiting team within primary health care and at the community level.
- Awareness of the implications of cultural differences on appropriate, accessible and sensitive service delivery.
- Current UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes.
- Relevant clinical or public health experience (at least two years).
