Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook meals in line with recipes, dietary requirements and portion standards
- Support the preparation of specialist meals including soft diets, diabetic meals and allergen-free meals
- Maintain high standards of food hygiene and kitchen cleanliness
- Record temperatures and complete food safety documentation accurately
- Monitor stock levels and support stock rotation procedures
- Assist with meal service and ensure timely delivery to wards and dining areas
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and report faults where necessary
- Work collaboratively with the Senior Cook, Team Leader and wider catering team
- Follow infection prevention and control procedures at all times
Qualifications
- Previous experience working within a commercial kitchen, care or catering environment
- Good understanding of food hygiene and safe food handling practices
- Knowledge of allergens and dietary requirements
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work in a busy kitchen environment
- Flexible approach to shift work, including weekends and bank holidays
Desirable
- Experience within healthcare or hospital catering
- NVQ Level 2 Food Hygiene qualification
- Knowledge of NHS catering standards
