We are seeking an enthusiastic Healthcare Assistant who will work part/full time.
In this role you will assist GPs and the nursing team to deliver safe, high-quality primary care services to our patients.
Rushden Medical Centre is an established GP Practice located in the heart of Rushden, caring for more than 9,600 patients.
As the practice grows, we are looking for an additional experienced Healthcare Assistant to join our expanding team.
Teamwork and mutual support are integral to our working practices and we offer a friendly and supportive atmosphere.
Responsibilities
- Measure weight, height, waist circumference and BMI; record results.
- Perform leg compression hosiery measurements.
- Conduct Doppler ultrasound measurements under a Registered Nurse.
- Take venous blood samples for investigation.
- Process and manage laboratory samples requested by doctors or nurses.
- Maintain vaccine cold chain storage, monitor and record temperatures.
- Assist clinicians with minor surgical procedures, including sterilising, cleaning and maintenance of surgical equipment.
- Prepare and maintain environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions.
- Perform venepuncture, wound care/dressings, ABPM, ECGs, urinalysis, NHS health checks and routine blood pressure/fasting glucose measurements.
- Administer flu vaccinations and B12 injections (when trained).
- Carry out new patient health checks and baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature and pulse rate.
- Facilitate routine and 24‑hour blood pressure monitoring, advising patients as required.
- Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes and chronic disease clinic management.
- Act as a chaperone for procedures when required.
- Perform ear irrigation under the supervision of the practice nurse (when trained).
- Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transport.
- Maintain clinical rooms adequately stocked and prepared for each session.
- Clean refrigerators routinely in accordance with guidance.
- Remove clinical waste and replace sharps bins in line with IPC policy.
- Deliver opportunistic health promotion opportunities when appropriate.
Qualifications
- Healthcare qualification (Level3 or 4) or equivalent working towards attainment.
- Completion of the HCA Care Certificate.
- Phlebotomy certification.
- Vaccination certification.
- Experience working with the general public.
- Experience in a healthcare setting.
- Experience in a primary care environment.
- Experience performing ECGs and venepuncture.
- Ability to record accurate clinical notes.
