An opportunity has arisen within Cardiff and Vale University Health Board for a Physiotherapist to join our specialist Surgical Rehabilitation rotation. Rotating on a 9‑month basis, you will gain experience across a broad range of clinical areas, including Trauma, Orthopaedics, Vascular Surgery, an Artificial Limb Appliance Centre and a community rehabilitation team (VCRS). The role offers full induction, a comprehensive in‑service training programme, regular appraisal and opportunities for development. You may be required to work your normal contracted hours flexibly to meet the needs of the service, including extended days or 7‑day job plans.
Responsibilities
- Work alongside multidisciplinary team members to deliver physiotherapy services to patients in specialised clinical areas, including those with multi‑pathology, complex needs, cognitive and behavioural problems.
- Manage your own patient caseload and participate in the on‑call service (overnight and weekends), working independently to address the respiratory needs of complex critically ill patients.
- Provide support for the clinical supervision of physiotherapists, student physiotherapists and support staff.
- Share the core values and beliefs of the Board and contribute to a culture of excellent care.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- Recognised qualification degree or equivalent in physiotherapy.
- HCPC registration; registration supplemented by specialist courses, CPD and experience across specialties gained from post‑registration short rotations or equivalent.
- Relevant CPD evidence.
- Awareness of health and safety / clinical risk management.
- Demonstrated specialist skills within the specified clinical areas.
- Excellent communication skills with healthcare professionals and the public.
- Highly developed physical skills relevant to the clinical area (e.g., manual techniques and therapeutic handling).
- Proven ability to motivate others, promote coproduction and empower others.
- Confidence with digital technology platforms/apps.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including opportunities to work on the emergency respiratory rota if applicable.
Desirable:
- Experience providing clinical supervision.
- Experience teaching other disciplines.
- Evidence of involvement in audit and research.
- Previous clinical experience relevant to the post.
- Evidence of assisting in planning and developing an existing service.
- Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to travel promptly to meet the requirements of the job, including cross‑site working and various locations, carrying sensitive information and bulky equipment as required.
