Patient Safety Lead Midwife

We are recruiting for aPatient Safety Lead Midwife who wishes to join #TeamIOWNHS. The Patient Safety Lead Midwife will report to and work in collaboration with the Director of Midwifery (DOM), Head of Midwifery (HOM), and the Clinical Lead Consultant Obstetrician to establish effective maternity governance systems focused on patient safety. The post holder will lead the management of incidents, serious incidents, and formal internal investigations, promote good practice in risk management and provide advice on the protection of patients, staff, visitors, and the Trust's assets. The post holder will promote the learning lessons from incidents, external reviews, and inquests to support improvements in the safety and quality of care. The post holder will also support the effectiveness of the risk register., The Patient Safety Specialist, Risk & Governance Lead Midwife will work collaboratively with the greater team including the DOM, HOM, Maternity Safety Champions, Consultant Obstetricians, Deputy Heads of Midwifery and Consultant Midwife to ensure effective communications systems are in place for shared learning that optimises excellent standards of care and compliance with national and local standards. The post holder will be the lead contact for safety, risk and governance responsibilities and will be expected to prepare and present assurance papers based on elements of safety risk and governance to the Maternity and Neonatal Safety Committee and in turn to the Trust Board on trust compliance in relation to national reports, governance, and compliance. The post holder will also be required to present similar information and assurance, representing the Maternity Service and Trust, at regional meetings such the Local Maternity and Neonatal Systems (LMNS).

• Registered Midwife with live registration with the Nursing, and Midwifery Council (NMC)
• Be educated to master's or equivalent level, or equivalent experience of working at a senior level.
• Have worked in a patient safety-related role, with an understanding of the principles that underpin approaches to improving patient safety in health systems.
• Have knowledge and experience of driving improvement for the safety of patients.
• Be willing and committed to developing expertise in aspects of patient safety science, such as human factors, systems thinking, investigation, quality improvement, change management, prospective and reactive risk analysis and management, and just culture.
• Have had previous responsibility for/involvement in clinical governance systems.
• Have knowledge of local organisation's patient safety policy and strategy
• Have knowledge of national patient safety policy and strategy, and levers for change in the NHS system; and ability to interpret national advice, guidance and requirements and advise their organisation on how these should be implemented.
• Have knowledge of safeguarding and the legal duties expected of NHS organisations.
• Be able to develop and maintain strong relationships across an organisation.
• Have proven leadership experience.
• Have knowledge and understanding of the Equalities Act 2010, including the importance of collecting and analysing data on protected characteristics, and wider understanding of the impact of discrimination and bias on the safety of patients., Expertise in aspects of patient safety science, such as human factors, systems thinking, investigation, quality improvement, prospective and reactive risk analysis, and management, and just culture.
• Have proven ability to develop and communicate a long-term vision for patient safety and convert that into plans, objectives, and deliverables for their organisation.
• Have significant knowledge of national patient safety policy and strategy, and levers for change in the NHS system; and ability to interpret national advice, guidance and requirements and advise their organisation on how these should be implemented., Use of PC for the majority of the working day.
