Overview
We are seeking skilled and compassionate individuals to join the NHS Children and Young Peoples Gender Service (London) as a Patient Pathway Co‑ordinator.
The role ensures efficient management of patient journeys from referral to completion, working closely with clinical teams, families and young people.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure smooth administrative processes for patient journeys, from initial referral to treatment conclusion.
- Track progress of each patient and manage appointments with multidisciplinary team members.
- Identify and advance next steps in line with clinical needs and pathway milestones.
- Provide comprehensive administrative support to paediatricians, mental health practitioners, youth workers, nurses, speech and language therapists and occupational therapists.
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records, collecting, presenting and reporting data as required.
- Follow complex protocols and, when appropriate, communicate feedback to senior staff.
- Supervise junior administrative staff, plan and prioritise workloads, and meet deadlines.
Qualifications and Experience
- Good general education with English and Maths to GCSE standard or equivalent.
- Educated to diploma level, NVQ3, or City and Guilds certificate in business administration or equivalent.
- Significant proven experience in hospital or NHS administration, delivering to high standards in a fast‑paced environment.
- Experience working within a diverse, multidisciplinary health or social‑care team.
- Experience supporting children and young people, including understanding their specific needs.
- Experience supervising staff and liaising with multi‑disciplinary teams.
- Excellent communication skills, both face‑to‑face and written, and proactive problem‑solving ability.
- Strong organisational and time‑management skills, able to work autonomously and in a team.
- Ability to work with confidential data, handle sensitive issues discreetly, and follow complex protocols.
- Proven ability in data collection, presentation, report writing and maintaining data quality.
- Strong IT skills, particularly with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel).
- Knowledge of medical terminology and understanding of peer‑review and governance processes.
- Commitment to inclusivity, empathy and working in an environment that values diversity.
- Desirable: European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) or similar customer‑services qualification.
- Employment Conditions
- Full‑time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
- Primary working location on site for the majority of the week; desk‑bound work for extended periods.

The NHS Children and Young Peoples Gender Service is delivered by multidisciplinary teams across London, including Evelina London Children’s Hospital, Great Ormond Street Hospital and the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.
