Job Overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic, inquisitive, and caring individual to join our dynamic ophthalmology team at Moorfields Potters Bar located at Barnet Road, Potters Bar, EN6 2RY. The role involves working in partnership with a multidisciplinary team of nurses, doctors, and optometrists to support taking diagnostic imaging as part of cataract, glaucoma, and medical retina care. You will work closely with qualified nursing staff in providing high‑quality, individualized care to a defined group of service users, relatives and carers, ensuring safety, well‑being, dignity, confidentiality, and person‑centred care principles.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain competencies by following the Trust’s required protocol for cataract, medical retina, and glaucoma.
  • Support qualified staff in assessing health needs, planning, delivery, and evaluation of care for individuals or groups of patients, including clinical risk assessment for theatre.
  • Exercise a reasonable and agreed degree of professional autonomy, make judgments and decisions to satisfy job expectations and demands.
  • Undertake clinical work and related tasks as delegated by qualified nursing staff, following appropriate training and competency assessment.
  • Liaise effectively with all stakeholders in the care process, including carers and relatives, to provide an effective, seamless and integrated service to patients.
  • Act as a chaperone when required.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to assess, plan and implement care for ophthalmology patients through diagnostic imaging, pre‑assessment, and preparation for surgery, supporting health promotion and eye care.

Qualifications

  • At least GCSE or equivalent NVQ Level 2.
  • Good communication skills (writing and speaking).
  • IT skills.
  • Good customer service skills.
  • Experience working in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience working as part of a team.
  • Experience working with patients.
