Overview

Provide front‑of‑house support at Moulton Surgery, ensuring patients receive friendly, efficient service while maintaining strict confidentiality of medical records.

Responsibilities

  • Offer general assistance to the practice team and project a positive image to patients and visitors, in person or by telephone.
  • Receive, assist and direct patients to appropriate services, book appointments and arrange home visits.
  • Prepare and manage paperwork, including new patient registrations, forms and clinical system data entry.
  • Process private medical service requests, including advising on costs, booking appointments and handling payments.
  • Carry out general clerical duties such as scanning correspondence, shredding, photocopying and emailing.
  • Prepare and clean clinical rooms before and after surgery.
  • Maintain a clean, tidy reception area and ensure adequate supplies of leaflets and office stationery.
  • Open and close the surgery following established procedures.
  • Provide cover for other staff on annual or sick leave and assist in training new staff where required.
  • Follow all procedures, protocols and standard operating procedures, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
  • Suggest and implement improvements to reception processes and environment.

Qualifications

  • GCSE A-C in Maths and English.
  • Experience as a Receptionist in a GP surgery or similar customer‑facing environment.
  • Experience working in a busy, multi‑functional team.
  • Excellent telephone manners, even under pressure.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, clear and concise.
  • Good organisational skills with ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
  • Problem‑solving ability and willingness to work collaboratively.
  • Friendly, approachable, flexible, self‑motivated and hardworking.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy and a methodical approach to work.
  • Hours

Approximately 20 hours per week, split between Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 8:00am–6:30pm. Shifts may be full days or part days with a 30‑minute lunch break.

Location

Moulton Surgery or our branch site at the University of Northampton.
