To support the delivery and improvement of Local Health Care Services by ensuring Corporate Clinical Application Systems are supported and maintained efficiently and securely to maximise their availability and usefulness to users across Isle of Wight NHS Trust and Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the delivery of effective support and advice to Clinical Application end users in a pressured environment where the complexity of Clinical Applications Systems is critical to patient care.
  • Deliver a high level of service to users regardless of call type.
  • Support the learning and development of team members so they can resolve all calls, whether Clinical Systems or IT Operations specific.
  • Interpret relevant policies and use initiative to ensure clinical systems record the required data.
  • Take responsibility for maintaining master files within the systems supported.
  • Create processes to ensure data completeness and accuracy by identifying and analysing data anomalies.
  • Instigate corrective action through communication with department managers and work with Digital Trainers to train and re‑educate staff.
  • Ensure all reporting timetables within the Trust and for external information users are met.
  • Develop processes that enable changes to national policies in other departments.
  • Operate and maintain information systems across a number of departments within the hospitals.
  • Act as second–line support to the Service Desk, log tickets with third‑party suppliers and provide resolution where possible.
  • Develop expertise and specialise in the support and testing of clinical systems.
  • Configure system master files to ensure information is collected as required for local and national reporting.
  • Diagnose problems through effective questioning of end users.
  • Follow departmental procedures for dealing with clinical system faults, logging tickets on suppliers’ incident tracking systems.
  • Analyse collected data for quality issues and present findings to department managers, implementing remedial actions as required.
  • Work outside standard working hours when required and participate in the on‑call digital rota.
  • Attend external training for major upgrades and new systems to support them effectively.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in IT or business‑related subject, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • ITIL Foundation certification.
  • Knowledge of business process documentation techniques.
  • Application incident and problem management skills.
  • Understanding of NHS data standards and NHS data items.
  • Understanding of equality and diversity issues and their impact on patients, visitors and staff.
  • Significant experience of multiple information systems in a work environment.
  • Knowledge of specific clinical applications such as PAS (Patient Administration System), EPR (Electronic Patient Record), and e‑Referrals.
  • Knowledge of business change process analysis and design techniques.
  • Evidence of reflection and evaluation of knowledge and skill gaps.
  • Location & Travel

Based at either Isle of Wight NHS Trust or Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust. Business travel between sites may be required.
