Overview
We are delighted to offer an Advanced Clinical Practitioner role within our Oncology services, supporting the Breast Consultant Oncology teams in Newcastle.
The position focuses on delivering patient‑centred care in outpatient settings and Oncology Day Units, contributing to the NHS Cancer Plan and the non‑surgical oncology agenda.
Responsibilities
- Provide expert clinical practice in systemic anti‑cancer therapy (SACT) and acute oncology management.
- Lead within the oncology/SACT speciality, influencing service development and reducing variations in patient care.
- Educate and train colleagues across multidisciplinary teams.
- Drive quality improvement and research, supporting delivery of the NHS Cancer Plan and the non‑surgical oncology agenda.
- Collaborate with breast consultants, MDT teams and other professionals to support safe and effective pathways for patients receiving SACT.
- Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments and make treatment decisions based on clinical reasoning.
- Initiate, evaluate and modify interventions for patients receiving SACT.
- Provide senior clinical leadership and support across service boundaries.
- Build capacity and capability through work‑based and interprofessional learning.
- Act as a role model, educator, supervisor, coach and mentor.
- Lead clinical audits and participate in research for practice improvement.
Qualifications
- Advanced knowledge and experience in SACT.
- Demonstrable expertise in acute oncology management.
- Strong autonomous clinical assessment and decision‑making skills.
- Experience in multidisciplinary team working and service development.
- Track record of driving improvements in patient care and service delivery.
- Skill in quality improvement, audit and research within oncology.
- Non‑medical prescriber and professional registration with NMC, HCPC or GPC.
- Masters level qualification in Advanced Practice.
- Advanced Practice Prescribing qualification (where legally permitted).
- Evidence of recent study and continuing education.
- Mentorship qualification.
- Independent and supplementary non‑medical prescriber (where legally permitted).
- Management and leadership qualification (e. g., IR(ME)R training).
- ALS / APLS Major Incident Training.
- Experience with evidence‑based practice, clinical audit, information technology, clinical governance, research, service improvement, and development of evidence‑based protocols and guidelines.
