Role Overview

Provide patient‑focused, high‑quality clerical support to the Respiratory Diagnostic Department across multiple sites.

Clerical staff will be multi‑skilled and trained to ensure data quality is always the highest priority.

Responsibilities

  • Make appointments according to clinical need and ensure patients requiring another appointment are accommodated.
  • Locate and file all required notes/referrals for clinics, track reports to appropriate staff for the next appointment, and keep the department running smoothly.
  • Handle telephone queries concerning all aspects of respiratory investigation, transferring calls to the appropriate staff member when needed.
  • Appoint diagnostic outpatients from GP and consultant referrals for investigations in order of clinical need, maintain a waiting list of patients awaiting investigations, and appoint extra clinics to reduce waiting times.
  • Undertake other clerical duties appropriate to the grading, including covering reception when required.
  • Work within the constraints of the Data Protection Act and attend all mandatory and in‑house training courses as required.

Qualifications

  • Ability to prioritise workload, work independently, and make decisions on own initiative.
  • Excellent communication, planning and organisational skills.
  • Diplomacy, discretion and confidentiality.
  • Experience working in a customer‑service environment.
  • Basic understanding of follow‑up appointments and audit reporting.
  • Previous experience in a busy environment and ability to travel between KCH, BHD and Thanet CDC sites.

Education

  • GCSE or equivalent, with Maths and English grades A–C.
  • RSA Stage III typing or proven keyboard skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Power Point.
  • Accurate typing skills.
