This is an exciting opportunity for a newly qualified Band7 Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to develop their career.
The role will provide supervision to band7 qualified clinicians and students, lead service development, and oversee the day‑to‑day running of Merton SPA, including case discussions for junior colleagues and triage of referrals.
You will play an active part in the wider multidisciplinary team and contribute to new support streams such as self‑referrals for 16‑ and 17‑year‑olds, short‑term treatment sessions, and enhanced consultation to schools.
Responsibilities
- Provide supervision to band7 qualified clinicians and students.
- Lead the implementation of new support streams and service developments.
- Coordinate and oversee the day‑to‑day operations of Merton SPA.
- Triage referrals and conduct quality assessments within Merton SPA.
- Liaise with partner agencies and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Work as a core member of Merton SPA, delivering direct therapeutic work in line with an agreed job plan.
- Model high standards of clinical practice in terms of safety, effectiveness and user experience.
- Coordinate clinical activity to enhance the overall coherence of the clinical offer.
- Meet with leads of other agencies and services (e. g. health visitors, perinatal services) to coordinate care.
- Advise managers and Professional Leads on clinical issues related to preschool children and training needs.
- Provide specialist assessments of clients, integrating data from psychological tests, self‑report measures, rating scales, observations and interviews.
- Formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and management of children's difficulties and distress.
- Implement a range of therapeutic interventions, adjust formulations, and employ evidence‑based methods.
- Make decisions about treatment options in line with relevant theoretical models.
- Exercise autonomous professional responsibility for assessment, treatment and discharge of cases, including individual, family and group treatment.
- Offer specialist clinical advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals.
- Contribute to a psychologically based framework of understanding and care for all service clients.
- Carry out risk assessment and risk management for individual children and advise other teams.
- Act as care coordinator, initiating planning and review of care plans.
- Communicate assessment, formulation and treatment plans to parents and carers sensitively.
- Ensure effective internal communication within the team.
- Implement and participate in crisis intervention measures with families and partner agencies.
Qualifications
- Educated to degree level or equivalent.
- Professional postgraduate qualification(s) in Clinical Psychology or Counselling Psychology.
- Registered with an appropriate professional body (HCPC, NMC, ACP, UKCP).
- Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of diverse mental health problems.
- Significant experience working with children with mental health problems in community settings.
- Experience of multi‑disciplinary team working.
- Experience of inter‑agency working.
- Experience and skills in risk assessment and management.
- Minimum of 50 hours of clinical supervision as a qualified psychological therapist over at least 18 months.
- Experience of using a variety of therapeutic tools.
- Experience of working with diverse communities.
- Experience of working with emotionally dysregulated service users.
