This role offers an excellent opportunity for a General Practitioner who is committed to delivering high-quality, personalised care while enjoying continuity with their own patient list.
The role is based at St James Practice, a general practice in Beckenham, Bromley, providing NHS primary care services to over 7,000 patients.
The practice is a training site with one GP registrar and occasional medical students.
The practice team consists of 4 GP Partners, 1 salaried GP, 1 GP Retainer, and 2 Practice Nurses.
Responsibilities
- Hold and manage an agreed patient list in conjunction with the Partners.
- Provide routine and urgent GP consultations, both face-to-face and by telephone where clinically appropriate.
- Diagnose and manage a wide range of acute and chronic medical conditions.
- Prescribe safely and appropriately, arrange investigations, and make referrals when required.
- Maintain accurate and contemporaneous clinical records.
- Apply effective clinical decision-making, including appropriate safety-netting and follow-up.
- Work collaboratively with GPs, nursing staff, pharmacists, and the wider multidisciplinary team.
- Participate in clinical meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and practice development activities.
- The delivery of highly effective medical care to the entitled population.
- The provision of services commensurate with the PMS contract.
- Generic prescribing adhering to local and national guidance.
- Effective management of long-term conditions.
- Processing of administration in a timely manner, including referrals, repeat prescription requests and other associated administrative tasks.
- Duty doctor on a rotational basis.
- Maintain accurate clinical records in conjunction with good practice, policy and guidance.
- Working collaboratively, accepting an equal share of the practice workload.
- Adhere to best practice recommended through clinical guidelines and the audit process.
- Contribute to the successful implementation of continuous improvement and quality initiatives within the practice.
- Accept delegated responsibility for a specific area (or areas) or the QOF.
- Attend and contribute effectively to practice meetings as required.
- Contribute effectively to the development and maintenance of the practice, including clinical governance, training, financial management and HR.
- Ensure compliance with the appraisal process.
- Prepare and complete the revalidation process.
- Commit to self-learning and instil an ethos of continuing professional development across the practice team.
- Support the training of medical students from all clinical disciplines.
- Support the partners in achieving the strategic aims of the practice, making recommendations to enhance income and reduce expenditure.
- Review and always adhere to practice protocols and policies.
- Promote collaborative working by liaising regularly with all staff and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Take part in clinical audits.
- Demonstrate a commitment to delivering safe, effective, and compassionate patient care while contributing positively to the ongoing development of the practice.
Qualifications and Experience
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
- Inclusion on the NHS Performers List.
- Valid medical indemnity appropriate for General Practice.
- Evidence of ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
- Experience working within UK General Practice.
- Experience managing a broad range of acute and chronic conditions.
- Understanding of NHS General Practice, clinical governance, and patient safety.
- Knowledge of multidisciplinary team working and integrated care.
- Experience working in duty doctor or urgent care clinics.
- Previous experience as a Salaried GP in UK General Practice.
- Familiarity with EMIS Web.
- Interest in service development, quality improvement, or developing specialist clinical areas.
